Bonners Ferry Visitor Center
Bonners Ferry, ID
The City of Bonners Ferry and the State of Idaho Department of Transportation wanted to establish a gateway rest stop and visitor’s center as welcome to North Idaho to visitors from Canada and Montana. The City of Bonners Ferry asked that the design of the visitor center reflect the mining and timber heritage of the area. This was accomplished through the use of heavy timbers, log columns, cedar lap siding and a building shape that resembles historic mining and logging buildings. The visitor center includes restrooms for travelers, a visitor center and second floor viewing/meeting room. The second floor viewing room provides panoramic views of the Kootenai River and mountains to the east. Display walls provide historical data and visitor information on Bonners Ferry and the Kootenai River Valley.
